A greasy salute -

The army truly marches on its stomach

So, Israel has just celebrated its 64th birthday yesterday and it's an awesome chance to upload another napkin that glorifies IDF in the 60's naive style.
Back then, when the Israeli army was a common visual reference, nobody thought there's something weird or unusual in using soldiers, pilots, sailors, paratroopers and warcraft as a commercial for margarine (yep. margarine once again!).
Mata margarine, the competitor of Gold-band margarine from the last post, salutes the Israeli flag with a soldier shaped margarine pack. A sure hit for any patriotic housewife.

Margarine dream -

Pure awesomeness! A series of 4 funky napkins by Thelma Blue-Band - the food company that is responsible to beauties such as Gold band margarine and instant sachleb.
All prints are in 3 colors showing off a food product and an illustration that logically has something to do with it. The mushroom soup has an illustration of a mushroom, but also a dwarf is included.
I guess that was the only mushroom image in the designer's stock. Also, a bird and instant tomato soup. Why? Because.

Passover time - זמן פסח

Holidays of happiness, holidays and times of joy

Good news! Just got back from Jerusalem with a beautiful new collection of napkins!
Get ready for some pure goodness..
Here's a cute Carmel Mizrahi vineyard special napkin for Passover from somewhere in the 60's.
A 3 color print displaying a misch-masch of stuff.

Starting with Carmel Mizrahi's logo plus a holiday greeting,

an illustration of passover plate with wine, seder plate and candles, an illustration of a part of the Hagadah (with a headline oddly saying Haseder).

And the best part in the napkin: an illustration of Moses leading his people as a side decor.
Note the goat in the corners! Happy Passover!

Making friends -

These two napkins are from "Motke's cafeteria" were taken from Beit Nagler in Kiryat Haim. Beit Nagler - opened in 1963 - was and still is a cultural center for the people of Kiryat Haim's suburbia life.

You were on your feet all days long. Too bad for your legs. Have a sit!
There are other people here but you. Get up and meet them. Don't be shy!

As a kid growing in industrial Haifa bay, Beit Nagler was the place to watch kid's shows, live concerts and lame stand up shows. My sisters actually used to study ballet there..
I remember there was a cafeteria there but I can't remember any Mr. Motke. I guess he was the man of the house before my time.
Anyways I really like Motke's heartwarming messages advising you to rest your feet in his place and to get up and meet the other people in the cafeteria.
On the other hand maybe I'm missing some kind of a weird 60's swingers club..

Animal band -

Not sure if the seal knows the tune

A super cute and groovy 3 colors napkin from the 60's of a pretty much eclectic animal band.
Makes me wanna leave everything and learn to play a banjo!

Combat duck

Ducks in action
This 4 colors print is for Mamtak - cocoa spread manufactured by Mata food industries.
I have no idea how this spread tasted, but those ducks all over the napkin are not a good sign.
I don't know which one is a better choice, the crying duck (ugly duckling probably) or the soldier duck with the beret hat on the left. The one at the bottom seems like a nice dude, yet, no chocolate spread crave here.

A new direction

From left to right: Metula, Jerusalem, Damascus, Malabes (nowdays it's Petach-Tikvah), Eilat, Bnei-Brak, Cairo, Bat-Yam, Haifa, Tel-Aviv

Cairo or Bat-yam?

I found this awesome napkin in these hectic days, when Israel's citizens are uprising and demanding social justice. Probably being inspired by the citizens in our neighbor countries of the Middle east.
The illustrated road signs show names of cities in Israel like Tel-Aviv and Haifa and also the cities Cairo and Damascus in a casual way, as if the whole Middle east has no borders..
I wonder if someone tried to implant a message there since the napkin is most likely to be from the early 60's when a trip to Cairo was only a wild dream. (A trip to Damascus still is a dream for me and many others I guess).

All those to Damascus to the left

I love this little police-man at the corners.. In the old days they used to stand in junctions and control the traffic instead of traffic lights. It looked something like this.
