אין ספק שמדובר ביום משמח לאדם ולמפית עם נצחונו של אובמה. אחרי שעקבתי בעניין יחסי אחרי מערכת הבחירות האמריקאית לא היה ספק שאצפה בקליימקס של החודשים האחרונים בשידור החי. אך אבוי, נרדמתי כמו דב פחות או יותר כשהגיעו התוצאות הראשונות מהחוף המזרחי. כשהתעוררתי גיליתי לשמחתי שאפשר להתחיל לחגוג ולהרים כוסית אספרסו של בוקר. זו הזדמנות מעולה לכמה מפיות חגיגיות במיוחד שמתאימות בול ליום הזה ולכוסית עם חברים של משהו קצת יותר כיף מאספרסו 

לחיים!

No doubt we're having a day of celebrations for any man, woman and napkin now that Obama is the American president for the next 4 years.
After following the election campaigns in the US for the past months it was only natural that I would watch the live broadcast on the election day, but Israel's time zone was against me and I fell asleep as a little cuddly bear as the first results arrived from the east coast around 3:00 AM.
As I woke up in the morning and heard the happy news I raised a cup of espresso for the event!
This is a great opportunity to see some lovely napkins celebrating this and any joyous moment.

Palm Beach hotel - מלון חוף התמרים

באוסף המפיות יש נוכחות מכובדת ביותר של מלונות ואתרי נופש. הרבה מהם כבר אינם קיימים אבל יש כאלה ששורדים עד היום. אחד מהם הוא מלון חוף התמרים שמופיע באוסף על לא פחות מ3 מפיות צבעוניות. המלון שיושב ממש על חוף הים זכה בהתאם בלוגו עם דימוי של גלים וכפי הנראה סוג של עץ דקל (או זנב של לוויתן?!). הלוגו ללא ספק מוצלח בהרבה מהלוגו החדש והסתמי לחלוטין. במלון היה אולם אירועים פופולרי למדי שאכלס לא מעט חתונות ובריתות של תושבי הסביבה. מביש קמעה, אבל גם אני חגגתי  באולם זה ממש את חגיגות ה"פרום" כשסיימתי את  לימודיי בתיכון ברוח ימי בברלי הילס 90210. האירוע היה די זוועתי אבל מה שבטוח, הייתי צריכה לפחות לקחת משם מפית

In my collection there's quite a massive presence of hotels. Some are long gone but some still exist till our days. One of them is Palm beach hotel that lays on Acre's shores and is represented in my collection on no less than 3 napkins! The logo is trying to combine some waves naturally with some kind of a figure that might be a really fat palm tree with a little human head.. Or is it a whale's tale?
There are no blue whales in the Mediterranean sea as far as I remember. The new logo is much less exciting as you can see right here.
The hotel also holds a big event hall for celebrations, where those three probably came from, and this popular venue for Haifa bay lodgers was where I had my shameful prom when I finished high school..

מפיות בכותרות! הנה כתבה קטנה וחמודה שעשו עלי ועל האוסף בחדשות הוט

רפי ברבירו והצלם רן שנק ביקרו אצלי בבית וחפרנו ביחד באוסף. אח"כ יצאנו לסיבוב בשוק הפשפשים של דיזנגוף לבדוק אם הגיעו סחורות חדשות. לצערי לא היו כאלה, אבל יש סיכוי שבעקבות הפרסום אקבל מאנשים אוספים ישנים שקבורים אצלם בבוידעם ואוכל לתעד אותם

Mapiot blog in the news! Hot news came over to see my collection. We had a little interview and went through the collection and then went out for a hunt in the Dizengoff flea market. I didn't find any napkins for my collection, but the good news is I might get a collection from some people thanks to the publicity!

A Hebrew lesson 02 - שיעור בעברית 02

אם אתם זוכרים, לפני שנה בערך העלתי פוסט על פלייסמטס מנייר עם שיעורי עברית לתייר הסועד בבתי מלון. דרך מעניינת להרוג את הזמן ולהרחיב את הידע. כנראה החברים בכרמל מזרחי נתקנאו והדפיסו מפית נפלאה עם שיעור מזורז בעברית עם מילות מפתח בשפה כגון שמש, בננה וברנדי.. מעניין אם המסר הסבלימינלי עבד לאנשי כרמל מזרחי והקפיץ את המכירות של היקב באותה שנה

About a year ago I posted these lovely placemats with a Hebrew lesson printed on them.
A great way to kill time till dinner's on the table. The guys in Carmel Oriental (Mizrachi) probably thought it was a good idea and printed this awesome napkin with a quick lesson that includes some key words in Hebrew such as sun, banana and Brandy.. I wonder if it helped the winery sales jump in that year..

המפית היפהפיה הזו שהודפסה על ידי חברת צים נועדה לקהל המפליגים המשועמם

לעומת כרמל מזרחי, ההשקעה באוצר מילים רחב יותר ניכרת, יש גם תרגום לצרפתית ואפילו רשמו את אופן ההגייה. האיורים הנפלאים הנלווים למילים חמודים ממש ומצליחים לתת לנו שיעור קצר במגדר ברוח הסיקסטיז. כמו למשל האייקונים המלווים את המילים "הוא" ו"היא", או למשל האיור הפיגורטיבי יותר למילה "סליחה". אני מעכשיו אלמד לחכך קרסוליים בכל פעם שאני מתנצלת בפני מישהו

This beauty was printed by Zim navigation and was probably aimed to kick away the boredom while travelling in the sea. Unlike Carmel oriental, they put some more effort and added the translation to French the Hebrew pronunciation. The lovely illustrations manage to give us also a quick lesson in the 60's gender studies. Check out the illustrations for the words "he" and "she" or the illustration for "sorry".
From now on I'll learn to rub my ancles whenever I apologize to a man.

ושוב איתנו  מטעמי מטע  במפית נפלאה לחג  הסוכות. לפי הנוכחות המאסיבית שלהם באוסף, נראה כי הם השקיעו במפיות יותר מכל חברה אחרת. מצד שני הם לא קיימים יותר אז כנראה הפרסום על מפית לא ממש עובד
במקרה זה עיצוב המפית מעט פחות שגרתי מהרגיל. כבר התרגלתי  לקומפוזיציות עם איור או לוגו במרכז ואילו הפעם נראה שניסו משהו מעט אחר ואסימטרי. התוצאה יצאה מעט מקושקשת אך חיננית בתמימותה ומתחברת יופי לתוכנה המוזר
ידידנו מר חרדל מפוסט  ראש השנה מופיע גם הפעם כשהוא אוחז בדגל לכבוד שמחת תורה ובידו הפנויה מצביע על הלוגו של מטע. בשולי המפית מאוירות שתי סוכות
באחת חגיגת אלכוהול צוהלת של שני עבדקנים ובשניה תלמיד קופיפי למראה ומורה חמור סבר עם ספר לימוד. מיותר לציין שלא נראית אף אישה באופק. את כל הנוי הזה מעטרים ארבעת המינים בהדפסה מושקעת במיוחד של ארבעה צבעים. כל שנותר הוא לקוות שמר חרדל ידע לבחור להתארח בסוכה הנכונה

Once again, a lovely napkin from Mata.
This time the occasion is the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
The 4 colors design of this napkin is a little different from the usual and maybe even a little weird.. I'm pretty much used to the central compositions of an illustration or a logo in the middle, but this is not the case. We can see our friend from the last post, Mr. mustard holding a Torah flag for the holiday and pointing at the logo, while in the other part we can see 2 Sukkot with happy lodgers.
In the first a couple of happy dudes sipping wine and in the second a monkey looking pupil with his teacher.
No woman in sight of course.. All I can hope for our friend Mr. mustard is that he'll pick the right Sukka to pass the holida.

מפית הורסת בריאות לכבוד ראש השנה מסדרת המפיות המופלאה של חברת מטע

משעשע לראות איך הצליחו לדחוס למפית  אחת כל כך הרבה נורמות שפשטו את הרגל במרוצת העשורים האחרונים: המשפחה הישראלית הקלאסית עם אבא פקיד, אמא גנדרנית, שלושה ילדים כשלאחד כובע טמבל וכמובן הכלב והחתול ההכרחיים

כל אחד מהם מייצג את חלקו במשפחה הבריאה שמורכבת ממוצרים שהבריאות היא ממנה והלאה: מרגרינה, מיונז (אמיתי!) והזוועה הקולינרית ממרח צמחי. אולי החרדל היחידי שיוצא נקי כאן אבל יש סיכוי שבניגוד למיונז הוא איננו אמיתי
כל שנותר הוא לאחל לקוראי הבלוג ארוחת חג של בריאות שלא יהיה בה ולו אחד מהפרודוקטים האלה בחיק משפחתם הבריאה. חג שמח

Another brilliant napkin by the late Mata food company. It's quite amazing to see how 

the creators managed to squeeze into this napkin so many ideals that are long gone.
Starting with the super straight Israeli family: dad works in the office, mom is being pretty, the 3 kids with one of them wearing the Israeli classic Tembel hat, and let's not forget the obligatory cat and dog. 

Each of the family members represents his part in the family of health by being dressed like one of Mata's products. Of course, healthy is the last thing that can be said about those products: Margarine, (real!) mayonaise and the horrible of all - the vegetarian spread.. Maybe the mustard is the only one to come out clean though there's a chance that unlike the mayo, it's not real!
All I can say is that I wish all the blog readers a happy new Jewish year and may your holiday dinner never have any of those products involved. Hag Sameach!

Hello spaceboy - הלו ספייסבוי

 בזמן שהייתי בחופשת קיץ הספיקו להגיע  שוב למאדים וניל ארמסטרונג הלך לעולמו. תרומתי הצנועה לחדשות מהחלל החיצון היא המפית הנהדרת הזו שנדפסה בשלושה צבעים בשנות השישים  - ימי המירוץ לחלל
האסטרונאוט  הזה לא נראה ידידותי במיוחד, אבל השמש והירח נראים די שמחים משום מה
אולי בגלל שהם יודעים שאין לו יותר מידי סיכוי

While I was enjoying my summer vacation, humanity had managed to arrive to Mars again and Neil Armstrong had passed away.. My small contribution to these spacy events is this lovely 3 color napkin from the space-race Sixties. This Astronaut  doesn't seem to be too friendly but the sun and moon welcome him with a big smile. Maybe because it's obvious he doesn't have much chance..
