Palm Beach hotel - מלון חוף התמרים

באוסף המפיות יש נוכחות מכובדת ביותר של מלונות ואתרי נופש. הרבה מהם כבר אינם קיימים אבל יש כאלה ששורדים עד היום. אחד מהם הוא מלון חוף התמרים שמופיע באוסף על לא פחות מ3 מפיות צבעוניות. המלון שיושב ממש על חוף הים זכה בהתאם בלוגו עם דימוי של גלים וכפי הנראה סוג של עץ דקל (או זנב של לוויתן?!). הלוגו ללא ספק מוצלח בהרבה מהלוגו החדש והסתמי לחלוטין. במלון היה אולם אירועים פופולרי למדי שאכלס לא מעט חתונות ובריתות של תושבי הסביבה. מביש קמעה, אבל גם אני חגגתי  באולם זה ממש את חגיגות ה"פרום" כשסיימתי את  לימודיי בתיכון ברוח ימי בברלי הילס 90210. האירוע היה די זוועתי אבל מה שבטוח, הייתי צריכה לפחות לקחת משם מפית

In my collection there's quite a massive presence of hotels. Some are long gone but some still exist till our days. One of them is Palm beach hotel that lays on Acre's shores and is represented in my collection on no less than 3 napkins! The logo is trying to combine some waves naturally with some kind of a figure that might be a really fat palm tree with a little human head.. Or is it a whale's tale?
There are no blue whales in the Mediterranean sea as far as I remember. The new logo is much less exciting as you can see right here.
The hotel also holds a big event hall for celebrations, where those three probably came from, and this popular venue for Haifa bay lodgers was where I had my shameful prom when I finished high school..

Making friends - עושים ידידים

שתי המפיות הבאות מגיעות מ"מזנון מוטקה" שהיה בעבר בבית נגלר בקריית חיים. בית נגלר
.שנפתח בשנת 1963, היה (והאמת שעדיין) מרכז תרבותי לאנשי קריית חיים והפרברים השכנים  

These two napkins are from "Motke's cafeteria" were taken from Beit Nagler in Kiryat Haim. Beit Nagler - opened in 1963 - was and still is a cultural center for the people of Kiryat Haim's suburbia life.

You were on your feet all days long. Too bad for your legs. Have a sit!

There are other people here but you. Get up and meet them. Don't be shy!

כילדה שגדלה בקריות, בית נגלר היה המקום לראות הצגות ילדים, הופעות מוזיקה והופעות סטנד-אפ מעפנות (מי אמר ז'וז''ו חלסטרה ולא קיבל?). האמת שאפילו שתי אחיותיי למדו לרקוד שם בלט! מרכז תרבות לכל דבר. אני זוכרת שהיתה שם קפיטריה אך איני זוכרת שום מוטקה בסיפור. כנראה הוא היה בעל הבית טרם זמני

אני מחבבת מאוד את המסרים מחממי הלב שמוטקה הדפיס על המפיות המייעצים לתת לרגליים מנוחה ולהתערבב עם שאר היושבים ולהכירם. היום מחוות כאלה עלולות להתפס כמוזרות לגמרי. מאידך ייתכן ומדובר במועדון סווינגרים קרייתי חשאי

As a kid growing in industrial Haifa bay, Beit Nagler was the place to watch kid's shows, live concerts and lame stand up shows. My sisters actually used to study ballet there..
I remember there was a cafeteria there but I can't remember any Mr. Motke. I guess he was the man of the house before my time.
Anyways I really like Motke's heartwarming messages advising you to rest your feet in his place and to get up and meet the other people in the cafeteria.
On the other hand maybe I'm missing some kind of a weird 60's swingers club..

A post royal wedding post

Gilton halls - were either in Tel Aviv or Ramat-Gan

After the royal wedding frenzy I felt things gotta be back in proportions. Spending 80 million pounds on a family event is something most of us will luckily never have to experience. Back in the 60's those who wanted a big and lavish wedding did it in event-halls. Big halls, usually decorated with tacky wallpapers, where the guests would sit around tables, enjoy the obligatory chicken while watching the young couple go all the way under the Chuppah.
This is one of a few event-halls napkins I have in the collection. Probably were collected at the event itself..

Gilton halls - logo

The randomly spaced typography around the logo indicates that it was probably hand written by someone with a good hand, yet no eraser. The messy logo combines the letters G and Gimel (ג) as for Gilton, plus some elements that are supposed to make it feel more royal (?).
I really wonder if there were any royal wedding napkins served at the table, and if they looked any better than this one.
