לאחר חופשה משובחת בניכר חזרתי לארץ לגלות שהקיץ התחיל בלי יותר מידי גינוני הקדמה. מה שהביא אותי לאוורר את המפיות  הקיציות שמסתובבות להן באוסף
זו למשל מגיעה מהסדרה הנהדרת "מזכרת מישראל"  - סידרה של מפיות מהזן היותר עמיד ואיכותי - המתארת סצינה תיירותית מפוקפקת של צפייה בדגים. אני יכולה לשער שמדובר בכינרת או אילת בימים שכל דג עברי עורר התרגשות וגאווה לאומית, אבל התקציב איפשר רק שיט בסירה רעועה למדי, במקרה הטוב עם תחתית שקופה
החוויה מתוארת באיור המתוק הזה כחוויה חלומית בה אפילו אדם משופם ומעונב מצטרף לנשף  הדגים ואפילו גבירה מתוכשטת משתתפת בסיור כנראה בנסיון לצבוע את האטרקציה הזו בגוונים  יוקרתיים יותר ממה שאפשרה המציאות

Just got back from a lovely vacation abroad to discover summer has hit Israel with full power! That's an excellent excuse to dig out from the collection box the summer-napkins.
This one for instance, is a part of the adorable series of napkins - "Souvenir of Israel" from which I have posted in the blog before.
This one describes an old Israeli touristic attraction - Fishspotting.
I can only assume the scene takes place in Eilat or Tiberius, where people would take a ride in a crappy old boat to check out the local fish in the water. If you were lucky, the boat had a glass bottom that you could see through.
In this sweet and dreamy illustration we can also spot a dude with a bow tie and a lady with fancy jews. Probably there to add some luxurious vibes to the story.

אם אתם זוכרים, לפני שנה בערך העלתי פוסט על פלייסמטס מנייר עם שיעורי עברית לתייר הסועד בבתי מלון. דרך מעניינת להרוג את הזמן ולהרחיב את הידע. כנראה החברים בכרמל מזרחי נתקנאו והדפיסו מפית נפלאה עם שיעור מזורז בעברית עם מילות מפתח בשפה כגון שמש, בננה וברנדי.. מעניין אם המסר הסבלימינלי עבד לאנשי כרמל מזרחי והקפיץ את המכירות של היקב באותה שנה

About a year ago I posted these lovely placemats with a Hebrew lesson printed on them.
A great way to kill time till dinner's on the table. The guys in Carmel Oriental (Mizrachi) probably thought it was a good idea and printed this awesome napkin with a quick lesson that includes some key words in Hebrew such as sun, banana and Brandy.. I wonder if it helped the winery sales jump in that year..

המפית היפהפיה הזו שהודפסה על ידי חברת צים נועדה לקהל המפליגים המשועמם

לעומת כרמל מזרחי, ההשקעה באוצר מילים רחב יותר ניכרת, יש גם תרגום לצרפתית ואפילו רשמו את אופן ההגייה. האיורים הנפלאים הנלווים למילים חמודים ממש ומצליחים לתת לנו שיעור קצר במגדר ברוח הסיקסטיז. כמו למשל האייקונים המלווים את המילים "הוא" ו"היא", או למשל האיור הפיגורטיבי יותר למילה "סליחה". אני מעכשיו אלמד לחכך קרסוליים בכל פעם שאני מתנצלת בפני מישהו

This beauty was printed by Zim navigation and was probably aimed to kick away the boredom while travelling in the sea. Unlike Carmel oriental, they put some more effort and added the translation to French the Hebrew pronunciation. The lovely illustrations manage to give us also a quick lesson in the 60's gender studies. Check out the illustrations for the words "he" and "she" or the illustration for "sorry".
From now on I'll learn to rub my ancles whenever I apologize to a man.

Especially for Israel's 63rd independence day, another napkin from the Souvenir of Israel series.
This 3 colors print show a collection of illustrated scenes taken from a typical service in the Israeli army. In those days I guess no one thought there's something totally weird about displaying this as a cute and smiley souvenir..
Happy birthday Israel. Hope we won't need soldiers on our napkins anymore.

A lovely illustrated napkin with a surprisingly accurate 3 color print from the series "Souvenir of Israel". I love the cosmopolitan feeling! And the little dog!

A lake, a tower, a colosseum and a cinema (?)

This napkin from the "Souvenir of Israel" series shows some hot spots to remember.
A rather detailed illustration and a rich 3 color print. It displays the landscape of Tiberias and sea of the Galilee, Jerusalem's "Citradel" (Migdal David), the ancient Roman colosseum in Caeserea and then, a surprise. Mugrabi cinema hall in Tel-Aviv.
Unlike the citradel and colosseum that still remain standing in a very impressive condition after hundreds of years, Mugrabi cinema hall didn't survive a whole century. It was opened to business in 1930 and became an important cultural center and one of the most popular hang-outs in the early days of Tel-Aviv.
Unfortunately it was burned in 1986 and demolished in 1989.. Now days you can find a depressing parking lot where it stood, but probably not for long. Another big luxury residence is planned for this area instead of reviving the cinema hall. I guess the future residents will have a nice home theater system in their luxury apartment to watch films instead.

Label on the back: Souvenir of Israel

This one is quite pretty. A pre 67' map view of Israel with all the touristic hot-spots.
Pretty much influenced by the American illustration style of those days and still has something more laid-back about it. I really like the textures created with the 3 color palette!

On the back you can find a label I found on many napkins in the collection.
Must have been published by the ministry of tourism. More from this series to come!
