Rosh Hanikra - ראש הנקרה

אחד מהבילויים המנצחים במשפחתנו בשבת היה טיול לראש הנקרה

השילוב של הנקרות המסתוריות והאפלות עם הרכבל הרעוע שמתנדנד באופן מעורר דאגה מעל הים היה אטרקציה אמיתית. בנוסף גם הסמיכות לגבול עם לבנון ומנהרת הרכבת לטורקיה  החשוכה ומעוררת האימה הסעירו את הדמיון

לאחר הטלטלות באוויר והמראות המרשימים היה אפשר לשבת במזנון, ללגום תותית, לכרסם נוגות ביסלי פיצה תוך בהייה בנוף המרהיב ולדמיין איך מלא מפלצות ומחבלים הולכים כל רגע לצאת ממנהרת הרכבת בריצה ישר אליי

 את המפית הזו אספו מהמזנון דור אחד לפני שאני ביקרתי בו. את התותית החליף הקריסטל. השאלה מה החליף את הביסלי פיצה

One of our most popular family Saturday trips was traveling to Rosh Hanikra.
The combination of the dark and mysterious caves with the rickety cable car hanging in the air above the sea was a huge attraction for us as kids.
Also the blocked cave that was supposed to connect old Palestine with Turkey with train gave us the goosebumps being so huge, dark and close to the border with Lebanon. 

After all this excitement  we had to relax at the little cantine viewing the beautiful sea while drinking some 80's fluorescent sparkly drink and munching snacks, still staying alert for the second all the monsters and terrorists will emerge from the old train cave.

This napkin comes from the same cantine, only one generation earlier.

Purim goes wild - עדלאידע

והפעם מטע, מקור לא נדלה למפיות נפלאות, מפגיזה עם מפית מיוחדת לפורים 

על המפית באווירת הקרנבל מאויירים טיפוסים שונים מחופשים למוצרי החברה במצבים מוזרים למדי
החבוב המחופש למרגרינה חלבינה מעולף מאלכוהול כשהוא אוחז בקבוק משקה חריף
בחור אחר המחופש לשפורפרת חרדל אוחז משום מה בראש כרות בדמות עצמו ועוד שני טיפוסים במגבעת מיונז אמיתי וממרח צמחוני

על היצירה המודפסת ב3 צבעים חתום המאייר עודד

כמו ברוב המפיות של מטע, החיבור בין המוצרים לבין החג שלכבודו הודפס המפית תלוש קמעה ומאולץ למדי אך תמיד צבעוני ושמח

Once again, a lovely napkin by Mata! This one is a special for the Purim holiday.
This carnaval like illustration shows a group of weird looking guys wearing Mata products as a costume for Purim..
The guy at the top, holding a bottle and dressed as a block of margarine, is completely wasted already..

Another guys, holding a head in his hands, is dressed as a tube of mustard . So weird!
The other two guys have a mayonaise and vegetable paste hats..

All the credit for this festive scene goes to Oded, as his name is signed at the bottom left.
As always, Mata's napkins show a forced connection between the "theme" of the napkin and the products they are supposed to advertise, yet colorful and super happy!

Election days - המפיות רצות לכנסת

Knesset cantine

הימים ימי בחירות ומהאוסף קופצות שתי  מפיות  מופלאות שמגיעות הישר ממזנון הכנסת. המזנון הצנוע למדי (על פי צילומים שראיתי) הוא המקום שבו  חברי הכנסת עושים הפוגה בין נאום חוצב להבות להעברת הצבעת אי אמון, ועל כוס קפה דלוח בוחשים בקלחת מאחורי דלתיים סגורות לציבור.
לא הצלחתי לתארך את המפית הראשונה, אבל לפי מצבה והעיצוב אני רק יכולה להעריך שהיא מגיעה משנות השישים ואילו השניה ילידת שנות התשעים

שתיהן למעשה ניצלו מגורל אכזר של קינוח פירורי בורקס קר מסנטרו של שר  זה או אחר תוך כדי תפירת עיסקה זו או אחרת

מקווה רק שהמפיות שיש היום במזנון ישמשו לניגוב פירורים מהאנשים  הנכונים תוך כדי לקיחת ההחלטות הנכונות. לט דה גיימז בגין!

Daniel and Avishar LTD - Knesset cantines - Bon appetit!

As you may or may not know, these days are election days in Israel. 

A brilliant opportunity to take out these 2 beauties from the collection.
They come from the Knesset (the Israeli parlament) cantine, where politicians chill between their votes and speeches and have their private conversations over a cup of coffee and cold Bourekas.
These 2 napkins were actually saved from a cruel destiny of wiping some leftovers from a random politician's chin. Lucky!

I really hope that the napkins they have in the cantine now days will have the pleasure of wiping the chins of the right people who truly deserve to use them.

Master chef - מאסטר שף

אחד המוטיבים החוזרים האהובים עליי באוסף הוא דמות השף

השף מופיע על מפיות של מסעדות, מזללות, מגדניות וכל מקום שמוכר משהו שאפשר לנעוץ בו את השיניים
הוא תמיד חובש את סימן ההיכר שלו - המצנפת, ולפעמים אפשר לתפוס אותו גם בחלוק ומטפחת קשורה לצוואר כשהוא אוחז במגש עמוס כל טוב או עוגת קוגלהופף אם מדובר בקונדיטוריה

הוא לעתים מופיע כדמותג של ממש (חלק מהלוגו עצמו) ולעתים כאיור נפרד בפני עצמו

הוא לרוב בעל הבעה מזמינה, חביבה וידידותית של חבר שבא לפנק אתכם באקסטרא חריף אבל לפעמים הוא יכול להיות חמוץ וקפוץ בעל ארשת חשיבות עצמית שאמורה להרחיק את האספסוף

 השף מופיע כחותמת האיכות של המקום. מבט חטוף בשף יבהיר לנו איפה אם אנחנו במקום עממי או יוקרתי. אם נוציא פה כמה גרושים או כמה לירות

Pizeria Harel

כמובן שמקומות עממיים רבים (כשחלקם מחורבנים למדי) ניסו לשדרג את תדמיתם והשתמשו בדימוי השף כערובה לרמה גבוהה, מה שהפך את השף לסימן די בטוח שאתה הולך לקבל בצלחת בדיוק את מה שאתה חושב

Hauga - Haifa 14 Herzel St.

One of my favorite motives in the collection is the character of the Chef.
You can find the chef on napkins coming from restaurants, diners,  bakeries and basically everywhere that sells something to bite.
The chef always wears his identifying mark - the cap.
Sometimes you can find him also wearing a little tied kerchief to his neck and a robe while holding a tray full of goods or Kugelhupf cake in case he's a confectioner.

He usually looks like a welcoming and friendly dude that will take care of your hunger, but sometimes he can look like a snotty type that might not serve every person. a glance at the chef will let you know if you're entering an exclusive or a low priced place.
The chef is there as the seal of quality for a place. He's there to make you feel you're in good hands of a "real" chef!

Restaurant, Cafe, Patisserie - Israel - Kosher

Of course many popular low priced places (some are pretty crappy too) adopted the chef as a quick and easy way to upgrade their image. A move which led to fact that when you see a chef character on a food place logo, you're gonna get what you deserve..

אין ספק שמדובר ביום משמח לאדם ולמפית עם נצחונו של אובמה. אחרי שעקבתי בעניין יחסי אחרי מערכת הבחירות האמריקאית לא היה ספק שאצפה בקליימקס של החודשים האחרונים בשידור החי. אך אבוי, נרדמתי כמו דב פחות או יותר כשהגיעו התוצאות הראשונות מהחוף המזרחי. כשהתעוררתי גיליתי לשמחתי שאפשר להתחיל לחגוג ולהרים כוסית אספרסו של בוקר. זו הזדמנות מעולה לכמה מפיות חגיגיות במיוחד שמתאימות בול ליום הזה ולכוסית עם חברים של משהו קצת יותר כיף מאספרסו 

לחיים!

4 more years!

No doubt we're having a day of celebrations for any man, woman and napkin now that Obama is the American president for the next 4 years.
After following the election campaigns in the US for the past months it was only natural that I would watch the live broadcast on the election day, but Israel's time zone was against me and I fell asleep as a little cuddly bear as the first results arrived from the east coast around 3:00 AM.
As I woke up in the morning and heard the happy news I raised a cup of espresso for the event!
This is a great opportunity to see some lovely napkins celebrating this and any joyous moment.
Lechaim!

Palm Beach hotel - מלון חוף התמרים

באוסף המפיות יש נוכחות מכובדת ביותר של מלונות ואתרי נופש. הרבה מהם כבר אינם קיימים אבל יש כאלה ששורדים עד היום. אחד מהם הוא מלון חוף התמרים שמופיע באוסף על לא פחות מ3 מפיות צבעוניות. המלון שיושב ממש על חוף הים זכה בהתאם בלוגו עם דימוי של גלים וכפי הנראה סוג של עץ דקל (או זנב של לוויתן?!). הלוגו ללא ספק מוצלח בהרבה מהלוגו החדש והסתמי לחלוטין. במלון היה אולם אירועים פופולרי למדי שאכלס לא מעט חתונות ובריתות של תושבי הסביבה. מביש קמעה, אבל גם אני חגגתי  באולם זה ממש את חגיגות ה"פרום" כשסיימתי את  לימודיי בתיכון ברוח ימי בברלי הילס 90210. האירוע היה די זוועתי אבל מה שבטוח, הייתי צריכה לפחות לקחת משם מפית

In my collection there's quite a massive presence of hotels. Some are long gone but some still exist till our days. One of them is Palm beach hotel that lays on Acre's shores and is represented in my collection on no less than 3 napkins! The logo is trying to combine some waves naturally with some kind of a figure that might be a really fat palm tree with a little human head.. Or is it a whale's tale?
There are no blue whales in the Mediterranean sea as far as I remember. The new logo is much less exciting as you can see right here.
The hotel also holds a big event hall for celebrations, where those three probably came from, and this popular venue for Haifa bay lodgers was where I had my shameful prom when I finished high school..

מפיות בכותרות! הנה כתבה קטנה וחמודה שעשו עלי ועל האוסף בחדשות הוט

רפי ברבירו והצלם רן שנק ביקרו אצלי בבית וחפרנו ביחד באוסף. אח"כ יצאנו לסיבוב בשוק הפשפשים של דיזנגוף לבדוק אם הגיעו סחורות חדשות. לצערי לא היו כאלה, אבל יש סיכוי שבעקבות הפרסום אקבל מאנשים אוספים ישנים שקבורים אצלם בבוידעם ואוכל לתעד אותם

Mapiot blog in the news! Hot news came over to see my collection. We had a little interview and went through the collection and then went out for a hunt in the Dizengoff flea market. I didn't find any napkins for my collection, but the good news is I might get a collection from some people thanks to the publicity!
